Steam table restaurant
(Turkey: Istanbul)

March 2004
Turkey: Istanbul: Steam table restaurant

If you avoid the ones that cater mainly to tourists (i.e., the ones with smooth-talking guys outside who speak enough of every language on the planet to make a serious sales pitch for the food to any conceivable foreign visitor), you can eat some great food at these places.

Really do avoid the tourist ones, though - not only are they egregiously overpriced, but there's a chance they'll make you sick, especially if you eat at odd hours. No problem at any busy one catering to locals though. If you're unsure, try the rice and a vegetable dish; pretty hard to get sick from that.
